The study assistant and the Explain this panel: what they can see, the daily AI allowance and turning them off.

Alfond and Explain this

Explain this

Under a quiz question (after answering) or a flashcard (after flipping), Explain this helps you understand the answer.

  • From your notes: the passages of the subject's own ebook and summary that match the question. Free, instant, and it works offline.
  • AI explanation (signed in): an explanation of the answer, and of why your choice was wrong, written from those passages. It appears as it's written; the free AI can take up to a minute to start.

Alfond

Alfond is the study assistant: a chat you can ask anything about your studies. It needs an account and a connection.

  • Open it from Alfond in the sidebar, or from the Ask Alfond button in the corner of every page.
  • From that button, your question goes with the text of the page you're on, so "what does this mean?" is about what you're reading. To ask without the page, switch it off for that question.
  • The conversation follows you from page to page. New chat starts again; you can also stop an answer, or retry it.
  • The suggestions ("Quiz me on this page", "Explain this page simply"…) are a good place to start.

Alfond can be wrong. Check anything important against your notes.

The daily allowance

AI explanations and Alfond's replies share a free daily allowance per student (30 a day unless the site sets otherwise). It resets every day at 07:00 WIB. An answer that fails doesn't count. If the AI says the allowance is used up, try again later; the notes in Explain this keep working.

Turning the button off

Don't want the floating button? Switch off Alfond button on every page on Alfond's page or on the Account page.

What Alfond keeps

The conversation is kept on your device (the last 40 messages), not in your account. What you send goes through the site's server to the AI provider to be answered.
